Bon Jovi rocks!!

Last month March 2nd was one of the first stops in Sacramento on what will be a long U.S tour for Bon Jovi. Critics give them crap for what I'm not exactly sure, it seems to change given what's happening in music at the time. All I know is that every time I see them in concert the fans love it and seem very entertained. Is that not the point of a good live show..to entertain your audience? They have more stops on their tour schedule than most rock groups right now. The show was sold-out at Arco and it was a mix of music fans, which I always love to see.

Glittery chicks strutting their stuff young and old and perhaps some who should have checked some of their "stuff" before leaving home but didn't, which always makes for great people watching! More guys than I would have thought seemed to enjoy the show too, including the date of the lady next to us who brought black panties to wave around. I was sick as a dog with my inhaler in  tow and tea in my hand, and am so glad I went. Music always will be a lifeline for me. The energy of a good live concert lives with you for many days, and if it's great... never leaves you. This is one of the many shows I enjoyed with my "hottie" husband of 20 years + in the last year, usually what I like is way to hard or "out there" for him. Say what you want about the Bon Jovi but I've seen way to many shows to count, and very time I see this band, THEY ROCK!

Thank You Bon Jovi for coming to Sacramento!

Let the Blog Writing Roll

I have been neglecting this blog because I really didn't know what I was going to write about. I spend so much time posting music events and social networking the information that by the end of the day I'm ready to turn off the world, pour a glass of wine, and cook. Yes, cooking has been quite the escape for me as of late and my desire to cook as much from scratch and use NO processed crap foods has become less of a challenge and more fun than I thought. So I plan to write mostly about what I do in the world of music and share a little about what I'm cooking.

Many summer concerts are announced during the month of March and it can get pretty crazy. Not so much this year. People are still going to shows to escape the daily grind which I'm thankful for. But, it's more expensive to put a tour on the road than it used to be. The bay area is one of the largest concert markets in the country, so Sacramento gets passed over more often these days as tours have to cut down on the number of stops they make. We are getting some great shows, but not as many as I'd like to see. Country fans should be pleased, there are some great shows scheduled out at SleepTrain that will keep fans boots tapp'in and wranglers sway'in this summer. But my headbanger peeps need some love too!! I was bummed to see that Mayhem Fest will only be making one stop in NorCal this year, and it's not in SAC.

Thank goodness for the Sacramento local music scene. People say it sucks...compared to what? San Francisco, Seattle, LA, we are not. But there are still plenty of great events to choose from. They float around in my head at night like sheep when I can't sleep! Yes, it would be nice to have a venue like the Fillmore or the Warfield in Sacramento. But the cost to brand a live music venue and move crowds into it in Sacramento is a huge undertaking and $ risk, even in a better economy. So enjoy the venues, clubs, parks, and school theatres that are hosting great music events where you live. One of my favorite shows last year was MC RUT at Cesar Chavez Friday Night Concerts in the Park. They rock and they are Free. Many great park concert series will take place all over the Sacramento region this summer, so get out and enjoy!

Looking forward to April, good things are headed my way I can feel it!!

Why I Love What I Do

Most people would not think a suburban mother and grandmother would be running a website related to concerts and the local music scene in their community. Most people in the music business are much younger than me, live in the city, and actually attend most of the events they are connected to. Since I run a website nobody knows how old I am and I sort of live vicariously through all the events that I post.

I never would have imagined myself doing it, had it not been for my love of music. I grew up in the Bill Graham era of countless Days on The Green. I would sit and watch the connection that took place between the musicians on stage and the crowd, and would thrive off that energy. And after 100's of shows large and small, that energy is still present and very addicting.

Sacramento is not a city of many  jobs in music so I had to create one for myself. Thanks to the support of my family and many friends over the years involved in Sacramento area Arts & Music, I finally feel like I'm finally getting somewhere. I'm kind of like a professional music fan, I post what I think music fans want to know about. Nothing is as unpredictable as the internet, rock n' roll, and what your kids will do! So yes it's crazy, but I love it and thank God every day that I can do what I do. Even on the days when I feel like throwing my PC out the window.

But then I think about the nights when I have driven by the some of the many venues that I cover and I know who's playing there. And then I think about the crowd, and hope that a few of them are there because they read one of my event postings. And that is why I love what I do.
